THE EUROPEAN UNION DEFORESTATION-FREE REGULATION
In response to the need to stop the depletion of forested areas worldwide, the European Union (EU) has approved the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) to ensure that consumer goods — such as soy, coffee, cocoa, wood, rubber, beef, palm oil, and their derivatives — entering the European market do not contribute to global deforestation. To achieve this, companies must conduct due diligence to verify the origins of these imported or exported products, proving they have not contributed to deforestation or the degradation of natural ecosystems. Read more about how to comply with the EUDR here.
WHICH PRODUCTS EXACTLY FALL UNDER THE EUDR?
The EUDR applies only to products listed in Annex I, regardless of their quantity. If a product is not in Annex I, it is exempt from complying with the EUDR’s requirements, even if it contains commodities covered by the regulation. For instance, products like soap are not required to comply, even if it contains palm oil which is covered by the EUDR.
